Israel prepares for the annual Remembrance Day for those that paid the highest price for our freedom and security.
The Defense Ministry released its annual figures of fallen soldiers on Friday morning ahead of Remembrance Day, stating that 92 soldiers had fallen this year and a total of 23,085 have fallen in Israel's wars since 1860.
This is not an empty number. Behind each and every one of those fallen are parents, children, partners and loves ones. For these families, it's not about Remembrance Day because they do not need this day to remember those that are no longer with them. This day is about standing with the bereaved families as one. Israel becomes one big bereaved family for one day.
This connection between the people and the country is one of the things that makes Israel unique. Everyone has a soldier in their family, or knows someone in active service. On this most solemn day of the year in Israel, let's all remember those that gave their lives so we could live here in peace. Let's all pray for the safety of those that are standing guard right now.
