You read correctly - Syria, a regime which murdered hundreds protesters and injured hundreds more, including young children, is up for a seat on the UN's Human Rights panel charged with "promoting . . . human rights and fundamental freedoms for all."
While the world starts reacting to the events in Syria and European nations are summoning Syrian ambassadors to condemn the violence and demand reforms - the UN remains the most hypocrite body.
The U.S. request to convene a special session of the 47-member Geneva forum was endorsed by 16 member states including Britain, France, Japan and the United States. After enough states endorsed the US' request such a session will take place on Friday to discuss the deteriorating situation in Syria.
Keep in mind that no Arab countries were among those requesting the session.
How can a country like Syria which is massacring its people can even be considered for a seat on the UN's Human Rights Council?
Take action now - click here to contact the real democracies who are members of the UN's Human Rights Panel - ask them why they are taking part in this charade. Human rights are not a game - all of us in Giyus.org ask that any respectable country which respects human rights will do the right thing and just say NO to the UN's Human Rights Council.
