Yesterday attack in Sinai in which Jihadist gunmen attacked an Egyptian base, killed 15 Egyptian soldiers and tried to penetrate Israel, took Egypt by surprise.
We've been saying here for quite a while that Sinai became a no man's land under Al-Qaeda's control. The surprising fact about last night attack, though, is the cooperation between Jihadists factions in Sinai and in Gaza.

Hamas is known for his alliance with the Muslim Brotherhood and is also known for its tight control of Gaza. So the question is - did Hamas' give his OK for the attack on Egypt yesterday? Did the attack happen under Hamas' nose without its consent? Is Iran giving orders to try to send Egypt and Israel off to war against each other so that Israel will not be able to attack Iran?
The picture is still unclear but what is clear is the growing strength of global Jihad and Al Qaeda in the region. The Arab Spring events led to chaos in which Jihad thrives. We see it in Sinai already and we probably will see it in Syria after Assad falls.
